Copywriting and content for the travel industry.

Hello. I’m Emma, a freelance content consultant, copywriter and editor specialising in content creation for the travel industry.

I create attention-grabbing travel content to engage, entertain and persuade your audience. I’ve worked with Frommer’s Unlimited, Rough Guides, VisitBritain, Hurtigruten, Google and several regional tourist boards. I’m also a regular on BBC Radio Kent, talking about travel.

At heart, I’m a travel writer and journalist, so storytelling is at the core of everything I do. I love to find that human perspective. Everybody has their story. My job is to help shape and share it.

What People Are Saying

“Emma managed an important project for me and was a pleasure to work with from start to finish: not only did she source and manage an excellent team of writers, but she ensured they completed quality work to deadline while communicating very clearly with me and the client throughout the whole process.”

— Teodora Jilkova, Columbus Travel Media

“I'm always impressed by Emma's ability to submit perfect copy every time. She was recommended to me by the editor of roughguides.com and I have since commissioned her to write a number of disability travel articles for Motability's website. It's really important that the content is appropriate for the target audience but Emma can easily get to grips with a brief and make even potentially challenging topics seem straightforward.”

— Ros Walford, Rough Guides

“Emma is a natural storyteller. Her ability to connect with people, understand their voice, and channel it into clear, compelling copy with real soul is a complete gift. I genuinely feel I’ve had the pleasure of meeting people through her writing, which is always informative and a total joy to read.”

5 reasons to work with me

  1. You need a safe pair of hands to handle a content-related challenge.

I once had just over a month to find a celebrity to star in, create, share and promote a video about travelling in England in spring. That was in February. During the Beast from The East. We did it.

  2. You need a content creator with wide-ranging experience of the travel industry.

I’ve worked on travel copywriting and content for national and regional tourist boards, big-name travel guides, well-known travel industry service providers, magazines, newspapers and content and copywriting agencies. Whether you want to reach a B2B or a B2C audience, I can help.

  3. You need an injection of creativity.

I love nothing more than a great big brainstorming sesh. I’m comfortable coming up with on-brand ideas for your content calendar on my own or joining your team-wide content planning meeting. I’m experienced at mixing data with imagination to find your perfect content strategy.

  4. You value a collaborative, flexible and open approach.

If you’re looking for a content or copywriting partner who’s communicative, cooperative and handles curveballs like a pro, you’ve found her. I’ve managed content projects that involved dozens of important stakeholders (I’m looking at you, Rugby World Cup 2015) and marketing campaigns with hundreds of partners (hello England’s destination management organisations). Diplomacy, empathy and a willingness to make the final call see us through.

  5. You want to work with someone who genuinely loves travel.

Travel is a big part of who I am. When you hire me, you’re not only getting a partner who loves wordsmithery, but someone who’s experienced the travel industry from every angle. As well as thoroughly exploring the UK, I’ve travelled overland from Holland to Singapore via Mongolia solo, then around the edges of India and from Rio to Winnipeg. But my interviews and interactions with the frankly remarkable people who work in UK tourism have had just as big an impact on me.
